Why getting your ERP & WMS operations correct are vital

Selecting and implementing the right ERP or warehouse management system is one of the highest-stakes operational decisions a growing product business makes. Poorly scoped implementations, inadequate integration and insufficient change management consistently produce systems that create more friction than they resolve, and legacy system decisions become increasingly expensive to unwind as the business grows around them.

The failure mode is rarely the technology itself. It is the gap between what the business needed the system to do and what was actually specified, configured and adopted. Closing that gap requires commercial and operational understanding of the business, not just technical knowledge of the platform.

Requirements definition and vendor selection

We begin by defining what the business actually needs from its ERP or WMS — across inventory management, order management, purchasing, production, fulfilment and financial reporting, before evaluating any vendor or platform. Requirements are defined from the operational and commercial needs of the business, not from vendor feature lists.

Vendor evaluation is conducted against these requirements, assessing fit, scalability, integration capability, total cost of ownership and implementation risk. The recommendation is always the system that best serves the business's actual needs, not the most technically sophisticated option available.

Implementation and integration

We manage the implementation process across configuration, data migration, integration design and testing, working with the implementation partner and the internal team to ensure the system is built to the specification the business defined, not the specification that was easiest to deliver.

Integration with the existing technology landscape - eCommerce platform, 3PL systems, accounting software, CRM and any other connected systems - is designed from the outset rather than addressed as an afterthought. The result is a system that operates as part of a coherent technology ecosystem rather than in isolation.

Change management and team adoption

A system that the team does not adopt is a system that does not deliver value. We manage the change process alongside the technical implementation, building the training, documentation and support structures that embed the new system into the operational workflow and ensure the team has the capability and confidence to use it effectively from day one.

Working with ERP & warehouse systems challenges

We have sat on the other side of system implementations that were specified by people who never had to use the result. We define requirements from how the business actually needs to operate, not from what the vendor finds easiest to configure.

A system the team won't use is a wasted investment regardless of how well it was built. We manage the change process with the same rigour as the technical implementation.
